| Bows with the gunport pattern former removed, notice that the top edge of the gunport pattern precisely follows the top edge of the bulkheads. |
| Stern with the gunport pattern fitted, notice again that the patter precisely follows the top edge of the bulkheads. |

The first planking. All planks should be allowed to run naturally, do not use plank benders / nippers to artificially force the planks into place as this can cause more problems than it solves. We recommend simply soaking the planks in water for a short period, making them more flexible, they can then be fitted without the use of extra tools. By allowing the planks to follow their natural run you will find gaps appearing toward the stern, this is correct and exactly as the original ship. Simply cut triangular shaped planks, called stealers, to fit the gaps and secure in place. Also, allowing the planks to lie naturally you will find that, around the bows, the planks will try to overlap each other. Again this is correct and you should simply trim the plank ends back to fit. |
The false deck fitted. A small amount of this deck will be visible through the various hatches and companionways and so the central section is to be planked. |
| The stern counter is fitted across the lower face of the stern extensions. Care should be taken to ensure the hole for the rudder post and rudder fits neatly between the inner stern extensions. Notice, to allow for minor build differences the pattern is slightly wide and, once fitted, should be sanded flush to the outer stern extensions. |
