A history of the vessels in which he served 1771-1805.
The definitive journey through the ships of Nelson's navy by the Keeper
& Curator of H.M.S. Victory.
Heavily illustrated, including a colour section, with plans and draughts
drawn specially by the author.
Based on extensive archival research, this work provides a cross section
of the composition of the Royal Navy at the time of Nelson.
Beginning with H.M.S. Raisonnable, the 3rd Rate 64-Gun ship in which Nelson
began his naval career at the start of 1771, Nelson's Ships provides a service
history of the 27 Royal Navy vessels in which Nelson served. All the famous
ships-of-the-line are included: Agamemnon, the vessel of which he assumed
command in 1793, Captain, which he commanded at Cape St. Vincent, Vanguard,
flagship at the Nile and of course Victory. The work also details the smaller
ships he served in such as Carcass, Badger and Minerve while a final chapter
is devoted to the minor ships in which Nelson served only for a very brief
period of time.
